RESET AND HAR RESET YOUR MOBILE PHONES

If your Nokia phone has slowed down considerably or isn't working properly, it may be necessary to reset the Nokia phone. Resetting the phone will restore the Nokia phone to factory settings and all data will be lost. It is recommended to take a backup of all data before resetting the phone. A soft reset clears all pending errors and even restores it to factory settings. If the error still remains, a hard reset may be required. A hard reset erases all information on the phone including contacts and memo notes. A hard reset can also be done on a Nokia phone that cannot be switched on.

How to reset your Nokia?

If your Nokia phone isn't working properly or is responding slowly, here are some tips on how to reset your device:

Note: resetting you phone will restore the default factory settings and erase all saved data.

Below are some of the problems that may cause the problems you are experiencing.

Internal Phone Memory:

The phone memory is full, meaning there is no space to store new messages:
  • Switch the primary storage to external memory (MicroSD Card), which generally has more space
  • Never install applications on this location, keep the internal phone memory dedicated to the main ones (e.g. firmware updates)

MicroSD card

  • Similarly, these problems may arise when the external memory is too full. In this case, you will need to delete some files.
  • You should avoid using a large capacity MicroSD Card (8 GB) with some basic phones. Always go for the recommended settings.

Make your Nokia N97 run smoothly without resetting it

  • On some forums it is reported that you can make your Nokia 97 work smoothly (after a crash) without formatting it:
  • Turn off your phone
  • Connect the charger
  • Remove the charger when the screen lights up and wait until it goes off
  • Turn on the phone immediately after using the Power button on top
  • After the vibration at startup, plug in the charger

Factory settings

It is possible to reset your Nokia to factory settings. For instructions on how to do this, look in the manual for your phone.

Soft Reset

A soft reset will clear pending errors and bring your mobile to its initial state by restoring factory settings. To do this, the shortcut is: *#7380#

This function apparently works on almost all Nokia mobile phones.

Hard Reset

It may happen that despite having restored your mobile to factory settings, the error still exists. In this case, it is recommended that you opt for a hard reset.
  • Enter the code: *#7370# and press Yes to confirm.
    • Important: You should back up any important information before doing this.
  • To perform a hard reset on a Nokia phone that won't turn on, press simultaneously these 3 buttons:
  • on/off + * + 3

Reset a Nokia 5800

Press simultaneously these 4 buttons:
  • Green button
  • Red button
  • Camera button
  • On/off button

If you perform the above action correctly, the phone will restart.

Reset a Nokia N97

  • You can reset your N97 by pressing these 4 buttons:
  • Power button
  • Space key
  • Delete key (left arrow logo)
  • Caps /shift button (up arrow logo)

IMMIGRATION LAW GETS ITS DAY IN COURT

US Supreme Court to weigh Arizona immigration law

The US Supreme Court Building 31 March 2012 Washington, DC Four provisions of the larger Arizona law will be discussed at the Supreme Court

The US Supreme Court is preparing to consider yet another highly politically charged case - this time over a controversial immigration law.
A month after hearing a case on the Obama administration's healthcare reform, the top court will weigh the legality of Arizona's SB1070.
It requires officials to check the immigration status of those they believe to be in the country illegally.
Five other states have adopted variations of Arizona's law.
Parts of those laws in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina and Utah are on hold pending the outcome of the Supreme Court case.
'Political theatre' The immigration case is expected to be decided at the end of June, when a ruling is also expected from the justices over a multi-state challenge to the healthcare act.
Critics of SB1070 say it undercuts federal immigration rules and increases racial profiling.
But the law's proponents say it was enacted because of a lack of US immigration reform. Arizona declared a state of emergency because of illegal immigration in 2005.
A report this week by the Pew Hispanic Center suggested the rate of Mexican immigration to the US had stalled or possibly even gone into reverse, based on a combination of factors including stricter border enforcement.
Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan has recused herself from the Arizona case because she was tasked with arguing in support of federal immigration policy in her previous position as US solicitor general.
The law was sent to the Supreme Court to review its constitutionality after a lower appeals court blocked four of its provisions:
  • requiring officials to check the immigration status of anyone arrested and allowing police to stop anyone suspected of being an undocumented immigrant
  • making it a state crime to reside in Arizona without legal documentation
  • banning all undocumented immigrants from working in the state or applying for a job
  • allowing police to arrest a person believed to have committed a crime that could lead to deportation, even if the crime occurred in another state
The Obama administration has argued those four provisions show Arizona exceeded its powers.
Several supporting briefs mention increased racial profiling but it is not a main contention of the federal argument.
On Tuesday, a Senate committee held a hearing on the Arizona law.
The session was decried as "political theatre" by Republican Arizona Senator Jon Kyl, who did not attend.
Jan Brewer, Arizona's governor, was invited to testify at the hearing but declined to do so.
New York Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer says he will introduce legislation to end Arizona's law and similar bills.

STRIKE IN NIGERIA BRINGS MUSLIMS AND CHRISTIANS TOGETHER

Policemen stand guard as angry youths protest on a street in Lagos, Nigeria, Monday, 16 January, 2012. Massive street protests forced the president into a U-turn
The suspension of strikes and protests by Nigeria's unions will come as a huge relief to ordinary Nigerians, especially those who earn their living from day to day.
It will also be a relief for the government of President Goodluck Jonathan that faced the strongest resistance from the Nigerian public since he took charge of the country.
It is equally a relief for the international community, who must have been concerned by the threat issued by the unions to shut down oil production - a threat that contributed to the surge in prices in the oil market.
But the most critical question is: Who won the battle between the Nigerian government and the unions representing the public? I suggest that the people have won.
They have won because the president had said the new price was not negotiable. The president had to backtrack, otherwise the unions would have undermined his authority. Young Nigerians were already talking about the "Nigerian Spring" on social networking sites such as Twitter, using the hashtag #OccupyNigeria.
Many of the critics of the subsidy are aware of the corruption associated with it - they know that a few individuals use the subsidy to milk the Nigerian treasury and amass enormous wealth. The mass protests are not necessarily about subsidy removal, they are about the deficit of trust in government.
Restoring that trust is the mountain President Jonathan now has to climb.
Jonathan's dilemma He must make a decision on who makes the final call in running the Nigerian government.
Since the return of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as finance minister - with the additional title of coordinating minister for the economy - a title just short of being prime minister - she has become the most powerful unelected politician in the country.
Protesters deface a portrait of Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan during a protest against fuel subsidy removal in Lagos, 9 January, 2012 The strikes have left President Goodluck Jonathan in a much weaker position
Mrs Okonjo-Iweala is a professional who rose to the position of managing director at the World Bank. But despite her qualifications, Nigerians have reservations about her economic management.
In 2005 she led the effort for debt relief, under which Nigeria repaid $12bn to leave itself virtually debt-free.
She promised Nigerians that the money saved would now be channelled into re-invigorating Nigerian health care, construction of roads, etc..
None of that happened. Yet she led the debate once again on the removal of subsidy by preaching the same old song of using the money saved on maternal mortality and electricity generation.
The International Monetary Fund is the leading organisation asking African countries to remove the subsidy.
The fuel subsidy has been removed in Ghana, and Uganda has also removed part of the subsidy on electricity.
This is where President Jonathan has a dilemma.
The international community partly contributed to his stability in office because they were aware of the irregularities in the election that put him there, despite the claim by Nigerian officials that the election was free and fair.
European countries and the United States supported Mr Jonathan partly because of the politics of oil, because Nigeria is major supplier of oil to Europe and the US.
Political microscope The strike led by Nigeria's unions has left President Jonathan in a weaker position, and international organisations like the IMF will be partly disappointed with him, but the pressure within Nigeria will be reduced.

A listening government could turn this into political capital and a warning to politicians who are desperate to divide the people in order to remain in office”
End Quote
At least he can focus on the security challenges facing the country as a result of ethno-political and pseudo-religious crises.
To avoid falling into the same trap, he should make sure that Nigerian refineries are fixed.
It doesn't make sense for a country that is the sixth largest producer of oil to be importing 85% of the oil needed for its domestic consumption.
The wages of government officials are too fat, they must be reduced, and building trust with the people should be the main focus.
Before taking decisions that affect the people, President Jonathan and his advisers should use their political microscope to study the mood of the nation.
How can the government remove the subsidy, thereby doubling the hardship of the people on New Year's Day, at a time of massive insecurity? That is an invitation for chaos.
But the strike has had one positive effect.
The strike and protests have brought Muslims and Christians closer, something that would have been unthinkable a month ago.
Muslims pray while Christians form a protective human chain around them during a protest against the elimination of a popular fuel subsidy that has doubled the price of petrol in Nigeria's capital Abuja, January 10, 2012. The strike brought Nigerians together - here Christians formed a barrier while Muslims prayed during the protests
A listening government could turn this into political capital and a warning to politicians who are desperate to divide the people in order to remain in office.

GOOGLE OFFERS FREE 5GB (5 GIGABYTE) CLOUD STORAGE

Google Drive to offer free storage in the cloud

Google Drive screenshot Google's rate for 100GB of space is cheaper than Dropbox but more expensive than SkyDrive
Google has launched a new consumer service offering up to 16TB (terabytes) of storage for photos and other online content.
Dubbed Google Drive, the service goes head to head with rival cloud services such as Dropbox and Microsoft's SkyDrive.
It offers 5GB (gigabytes) of storage for free. People pay on a rising scale for more space.
Experts say that Google is "late" to the market.
16TB of space could hold more than 4,000 two-hour movies coded in 720p high-definition resolution.
Cloud living "Today, we're introducing Google Drive - a central place where you can create, share, collaborate and keep all of your stuff," said Sundar Pichai, senior vice president of Chrome and Apps in a blog post.
"Whether you're working with a friend on a joint research project, planning a wedding with your fiancé or tracking a budget with roommates, you can do it in Drive."
The service will allow users to upload and access videos, photos, Google Docs, PDFs and other documents.
It can be installed to a Mac or PC or as an app to an Android phone or tablet. Google said that it was working on an app for Apple's mobile operating system, which should be available in the coming weeks.
For blind users, Drive can be accessed with a screen reader.
"Google Drive will hit some competitors very hard and shake up the market," said Hanns Kohler-Kruner from tech research firm Gartner.
"It will also create another stream of more focused and potential ad revenue for Google around the content of personal files on Google Drive."
Google Drive screenshot Videos stored on Google Drive become available on Google+, helping to promote the social network
Grand canyon Google will draw on its search expertise to help differentiate the service.
Users will be able search by keyword and filter by file type, owner or activity. Drive will also recognise text in scanned documents using optical character recognition (OCR) technology.
This would allow someone, for example, to upload a scanned image of an old newspaper clipping and search for a word from the text of the news article.
Google Drive will also use image recognition.
"If you drag and drop photos from your Grand Canyon trip to Drive, the next time you search for Grand Canyon, photos of it will pop up," said Mr Pichai.
The first 5GB of storage comes free.
After that users can choose to upgrade to 25GB for $2.49 (£1.50) a month, 100GB for $4.99 a month, 1TB for $49.99 or 16TB for $799.99.
When users upgrade to a paid account, their Gmail account storage will automatically expand to 25GB.
By contrast, Microsoft offers yearly contracts. It charges $50 for maximum storage of 100GB.
Dropbox offers individual users up to 100GB at a rate of $19.99 per month or $199 per year. It also sells larger amounts to groups with the cost and size determined by how many people share the space.
Facebook? Cloud services have become hugely popular as people seek to access content from a variety of places and devices.
Dropbox graphic Dropbox helped popularise the idea of storage in the cloud, but risks being undercut by its rivals
Richard Edwards, principal analyst at research firm Ovum, said that Google was "very late" to the market but that its move could spur others.
"Facebook doesn't have a cloud service but this may prompt it into an acquisition," he said.
"If Facebook was to buy Dropbox that would be a game-changer."
In anticipation of Google's announcement, rivals updated their own services.
Dropbox now allows users to give non-members access to files via emailed links. Until now it had required both parties to sign up to its service and have shared folders.
Microsoft has also improved its SkyDrive service.
Among other features, it has integrated the drive into Windows Explorer and Apple's Finder so that it works as an extension of the desktop.
It also added capability to access files stored on the drive from an iPad as well as the iPhone and Windows Phone-based handsets.

Nigeria fuel subsidy report 'reveals $6bn fraud

Nigeria fuel subsidy report 'reveals $6bn fraud

Nigerians see cheap fuel as the only benefit they get from their country's oil wealth
Nigeria's parliament has discussed a report said to reveal that $6bn (£4bn) has been defrauded from the fuel subsidy fund in the past two years.
The debate, which was televised live, made official findings that have been widely leaked in recent days.
Protest against removal of fuel subsidy in Lagos, Nigeria - 9 January 2012The fuel sector probe was set up in the wake of angry nationwide protests in January after the government tried to remove a fuel subsidy.
Nigeria is a major oil producer but has to import most of its fuel.
Full-page adverts "We are fighting against entrenched interests whose infectious greed has decimated our people," House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said as he opened the two-day debate.
"Therefore, be mindful they will fight back and they normally do fight dirty."
The 205-page parliamentary report uncovers a long list of alleged wrongdoings involving oil retailers, Nigeria's Oil Management Company and the state Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation.
According to the leaks, a total of 15 fuel importers collected more than $300m two years ago without importing any fuel, while more than 100 oil marketers collected the same amount of money on several occasions.
The leaked report also says that officials in the government of President Goodluck Jonathan were among those who benefited from the subsidy fund.
Many of the people named in the document have denied any involvement in fraud, with some taking out full-page adverts proclaiming their innocence in local newspapers.
The BBC's Bashir Sa'ad Abdullahi in Abuja says at least some of the findings are likely to be adopted by Nigeria's lawmakers because of the huge public anger over the attempt to withdraw the subsidy.
Many Nigerians were livid when they were told by their government that the fuel subsidy was economically unsustainable - only to now find out the scale of fraud in the operation of the fund, our correspondent says.
Despite being a major oil producer, Nigeria has not invested in the infrastructure needed to produce refined fuel, so has to import much of its petrol.
The annual $8bn subsidy means prices are lower than in neighbouring countries - and correspondents say many Nigerians see cheap fuel as the only benefit they get from their country's oil wealth, much of which is pocketed by corrupt officials.
After a week of street protests and a general strike, the government agreed to restore some of the subsidy - and reduce the pump price of petrol to 97 naira (about $0.60) per litre after it had doubled to 140 naira when the subsidy was removed without warning on 1 January.
But President Jonathan defended the subsidy cut, saying Nigeria must either "deregulate and survive economically, or we continue with a subsidy regime that will continue to undermine our economy."

IRAN MAY BE PLANNING TO BUILD A NUCLEAR BOMB

Iran not building nuclear bomb, Israeli army chief says

Lt Gen Benny Gantz believes international diplomacy and sanctions are having an impact

Iran nuclear crisis

The head of the Israeli military has said he does not think Iran will develop nuclear weapons.
Picture of Lt Gen Benny GantzChief of Staff Lt Gen Benny Gantz made the statement in an interview with the Israeli newspaper, Haaretz.
He said Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had not yet made the final decision whether to build a nuclear bomb.
Tehran says it wants nuclear technology for peaceful purposes but the West believes Iran is developing weapons.
In November the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released a report with new evidence showing Iran was secretly working towards obtaining a nuclear weapon.
It did not say that Iran had succeeded in mastering the relevant technology or how long it might take to develop a bomb.
The US, European Union, Canada, Japan and Australia are among those who have imposed international sanctions on Tehran.
The measures include restrictions on Iranian oil sales, a ban on the supply of heavy weaponry and nuclear-related technology to the country, and an asset freeze on certain individuals and organisations.
At odds with PM? Gen Gantz says this pressure is beginning to bear fruit.
He added that Iran "is going step by step to the place where it will be able to decide whether to manufacture a nuclear bomb. It hasn't yet decided to go the extra mile".
And speaking of the supreme leader he continued "I don't think he will want to go the extra mile. I think the Iranian leadership is composed of very rational people".

End Quote Lt Gen Benny Gantz Israeli Chief of Staff
But these views appear to put him at odds with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In an interview with CNN this week Mr Netanyahu said he would not want to bet "the security of the world on Iran's rational behaviour".
The prime minister has also warned he would be prepared to take action against Iran to stop it obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Gen Gantz warned this year will be critical for Iran, saying: "We're in a period when something must happen.
"Either Iran takes its nuclear programme to a civilian footing only or the world, perhaps we too, will have to do something. We're closer to the end of discussions than the middle."
Haaretz reported that the general believed Iran's nuclear programme was vulnerable because its facilities were not bomb-proof.
But although Gen Gantz does not think Iran would ultimately go ahead with a nuclear weapon, he said that as a military man he had to be prepared for every eventuality.
"I am preparing for full deployment of our capabilities. The political leadership will have to take courageous, painful decisions," he said.

HOW TO CREATE A VIRUS THAT WILL SHUTDOWN A FRIENDS COMPUTER WITHIN 30 SECONDS

Ever wonder what new prank you could come up with to make your little sister go crazy? Here's a simple, yet very effective one. Just switch one of your desktop icons (i.e. Internet Explorer) with a fake one and a warning box will pop-up which will shut down your computer within 30 seconds. Isn't that enough to make lil' sister yell when she sees her Barbie doll game go bye-bye? Here's how it works:

This isn't really a virus ... its simply a shutdown program which will make your friends freak out.

First, you will need to create a shortcut. You can create a shortcut by right-clicking on your desktop and selecting New, and then, Shortcut.

A Create Shortcut box should then open. In that box, write the following:

shutdown -s -t 30 -c "VIRUS DETECTED!!"

(note: the number 30 can be replaced by any other number. That number corresponds to the number of seconds before the computer will shutdown. Here I have chosen 30 in order to have enough time to close it before my computer shuts down. Also, the message between quotes can be replaced by something like "YOU HAVE BEEN INFECTED BY A TROJAN VIRUS" or some other great idea. However, the message must be between quotes.)

After, simply click on Next and a box with the name Shutdown will appear. Change the name that you want for it. In this case I have chosen Internet Explorer but it can always be renamed how you prefer.

After naming it, click on Finish and ... here's your shutdown virus!!!! Not very convincing he? Well, in that case let's change our icon!

Right-click on your shutdown Internet Explorer icon (or whichever name you gave it) and select Properties.

Select Change Icon

(Note: A box saying "system 32 does not have any icons choose from a diffrent list" or something like that may pop-up; if it does simply click on Ok)

Now... it depends on what you have named your shutdown virus ... If you chose Internet Explorer scroll all the way to the right and you will find the icon. If you did not choose Internet Explorer feel free to choose a different icon... Remember it has to be something that people will click on.

Now Heres our Icon ... Now it looks like something that people will click on.

To close the program, select the start menu and click on Run...

Write: Shutdown -a

and the program should shutdown immediately.

(Note: To shut it, you can also do a new shortcut but instead of writing shutdown -s -t 30 -c "VIRUS DETECTED" write this: shutdown -a

and call it Shutdown abort..So instead of closing it with Run you can just click on your shutdown abort shortcut.)

Have fun freaking out your friends/family ... And dont forget to close it or put a longer time frame so that you will have enough time to close it.

WARNING: This program will really shutdown your computer. It may be fun to do it to little sisters or friends but refrain from using it if someone is actually working on the computer, since they will lose all their information.

Enjoy!

OSAMA BIN LADEN HAD FOUR CHILDREN

One might wonder: Did the ?AL QAEDA KING Osama bin Laden every marry: did he have children ? well the answer is yes he did, it was reported by yahoo news that the Al-Qaeda leader had four children .
Osama bin Laden fathered four children as he hid out in Pakistan after the 9/11 attacks, his youngest wife told interrogators, according to a police report seen by AFP on Friday.
Amal Abdulfattah's account provides rare details of the Al-Qaeda leader's life from when he fled Afghanistan in late 2001 until his death aged 54 last May during a US Navy SEAL operation in Abbottabad, in Pakistan.
Abdulfattah, from Yemen, was arrested by Pakistani authorities following the US raid on bin Laden's compound near the Pakistani capital Islamabad, along with two of his Saudi wives, and her five children.
The three detained widows face charges of illegally entering and residing in Pakistan. Abdulfattah, 30, was shot while trying to protect her husband, according to the US.
Niece
The Pakistan police report, dated January 19, said Abdulfattah was born into a family of 17 children and married bin Laden because "she had a desire to marry a Mujahedeen", using the term for "holy warrior".
The report, from the office of the inspector general of police in Islamabad, recommended Abdulfattah and her children be immediately deported.

After arriving in Pakistan in July 2000 on a three-month visa, in the company of her sister and brother-in-law, Abdulfattah travelled to Kandahar, in neighbouring Afghanistan, at the time capital of the Taliban regime.
The date of her marriage to bin Laden was not specified, but the police report said afterwards she moved in with him and his other two wives.
"She further revealed that after the incident of 9/11, they all scattered and she came to Karachi with one of her daughter's, Safia," the report said. Safia, her first child by the Al-Qaeda kingpin, was born in Kandahar in 2001.
She stayed in Karachi for eight to nine months, moving between homes arranged for them by Pakistani families and bin Laden's oldest son Saad.
Abdulfattah then met back with the fleeing bin Laden in Peshawar, in northwest Pakistan. The report suggests that the pair did not part from that moment until the raid in Abbottabad.
They stayed for eight or nine months in Swat, then for two years in Haripur, 90 minutes from Islamabad, before moving to the garrison town of Abbottabad in 2005.
During this time, Abdulfattah had four other children by bin Laden, by then the most-wanted man in the world.
In Haripur, Aasia, a girl, was born in 2003 and Ibrahim, a boy, was born the next year.
On both occasions Abdulfattah gave birth in a public hospital, the police report said.
The other two children, Zainab, a girl, and Hussain, a boy, were born in Abbottabad in 2006 and 2008.
According to the report, the family movements while they were on the run were organised by "Ibrahim and Abrar", two Pakistanis given responsibility for the task by members of Al-Qaeda.
One of his wives
Both the men were killed by the Americans during the raid on Abbottabad and had been living in the same compound, along with Ibrahim's wife, Bushra, and bin Laden's son, Khalid.
The continued detention of bin Laden's wives has led to accusations that Pakistan is attempting to muzzle them to stop them from providing details that could embarrass Islamabad or add to suspicions it knew where bin Laden was.
Pakistan was humiliated by the covert American operation that killed the Al-Qaeda leader in the early hours of May 2, practically on the doorstep of the country's elite military academy.
